Following the success of our recent Indonesia Market Update, ANZBC, in collaboration with our partner, MFAT, is delighted to bring you our second event in the series for 2022 - a Market Update from Singapore.


Guest speakers H.E. Jo Tyndall, New Zealand's High Commissioner to Singapore, and Maggie Christie, New Zealand's Trade Commissioner to Singapore, will provide us with an overview of the outlook on Singapore, key developments, market trends and opportunities, as well as the implications on New Zealand trade and business interests in to Singapore.


We will also hear from Su-Lyn Wee, Director of Optimo Foods, an importer of New Zealand F & B products into Singapore, who will share with us her experiences of how the business situation currently is in Singapore, and provide us with an overview of her trade experience between the two countries, the opportunities and challenges.


The event will be moderated by Mark Thomas, Managing Director of Serviceworks and ANZBC Chair.


The Zoom Meeting will be concluded with a Q & A session.

    Jo Tyndall was most recently New Zealand’s Climate Change Ambassador. From 2016 to December 2018, she also co-chaired the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement (APA). As Climate Change Ambassador, she was head of delegation to the United Nations climate negotiations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade from July 2010 to March 2016.
    From 2014 -2015, she held a Vice President position on the Bureau of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, representing the regional grouping of Western European and Other States.
    Prior to her role as Climate Change Ambassador, Ms Tyndall was Director of the Broadcasting Unit in the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. From 1999 to 2006, she was Chief Executive of the broadcasting funding body, NZ On Air. She has also served as Chief Executive of two screen industry organisations - the Screen Production and Development Association (SPADA) and Project Blue Sky (1994 to 1999).
    Ms Tyndall began her career as a multilateral trade policy specialist with the Department of Trade and Industry and subsequently the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

    Based in Singapore, Maggie is New Zealand’s Trade Commissioner to Singapore. She is responsible for facilitating and promoting trade, as well as maintaining an extensive network of business relationships relevant to New Zealand businesses to grow New Zealand companies internationally.

    Prior she was the Director of Made With Care, New Zealand’s first global brand Food and Beverage campaign designed to grow awareness, preference and demand for New Zealand’s premium food and beverage. Her prior experience includes Insurance, marketing and advertising in UK, US and New Zealand including multiple start-ups in New Zealand and North America.

    With over 25 years in both public and private sector spanning multiple industries globally she has the experience and the passion to guide customer’s growth.

    Su-Lyn lived in New Zealand for 14 years, spending 10 years in FMCG before returning to Singapore in 2010 to start a business representing NZ brands. She has a strong background in Category Management, Product Management, Data Analysis and Export, having launched branded and private label (food and personal care) products in New Zealand and Singapore, as well as having exported to Australia, Malaysia, Thailand and Viet Nam.

    Currently based in Singapore, Su-Lyn manages 2 companies which she co-founded: Optimo Foods Pte Ltd, based in Singapore and Foodpath NZ Ltd, which sources product from ANZ and globally on behalf of Singapore’s largest retailer.

    Optimo Foods continues to be an agile business helping kiwi FMCG businesses navigate South East Asian markets, offering distribution, logistics, private label packing and in-store activation services in Singapore. Prior to the pandemic, Optimo Foods was a preferred sampling partner for one of the main supermarket chains in Singapore, with weekly activations nationally.

    Based on her personal experience, Su-Lyn is keenly aware of the challenges faced by SME’s looking at exporting to SEA markets.
