Malaysia Market Event - Wednesday 8 May 2024 at 5:30PM NZT - MFAT / NZTE Auckland Office


ANZBC, in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) and New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE), is delighted to bring you the second event in the Market Event Series for 2024 - Market Event on Malaysia.


Guest speakers H.E Pam Dunn, New Zealand's High Commissioner to Malaysia, and Suzy Fewtrell, NZTE Trade Commissioner to Malaysia, will provide us with an overview of the outlook on Malaysia, key developments, market trends and opportunities, as well as the implications on New Zealand trade and business interests.


We will also hear from business speakers - Alun Evans from Antipodean Coffee, and the event will be moderated by Kenneth Leong, Tiaki Capital, Meo Masks (etc). The business speakers will share with us their experience and learnings of doing business in Malaysia, and some of the opportunities and challenges of doing business in this ASEAN market.


We are pleased to welcome Kenneth Leong, Tiaki Capital, to moderate this discussion.


There will be two opportunities during this hybrid session to ask your questions to the speakers.

    Pam Chong Dunn was formally appointed New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia in December 2020, and is concurrently serving as New Zealand High Commissioner-designate to Brunei Darussalam.

    A career diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pam was previously New Zealand Ambassador to ASEAN based in Jakarta. Prior to that, she was posted to China three times, and also worked in Thailand.

    In Wellington, Pam’s most recent position was Senior Private Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Earlier roles were focused on managing New Zealand’s relations in North Asia; in South East Asia; human rights; and policy and planning in the Office of the Chief Executive.

    Pam is from Wellington. She studied at Victoria University and Beijing Normal University. She speaks Chinese and has basic Indonesian and Malay.

    Pam is married to Dr Ross Dunn and has one son.

    Suzy is the Trade Commissioner for Malaysia and Thailand, based in Kuala Lumpur. She facilitates trade from the two markets to New Zealand and develops the networks of business relationships relevant to New Zealand exporters.

    Suzy joined NZTE in September 2017 as manager of the Missions and Events team for Greater China, based in Shanghai. Prior to that she spent ten years living in and operating businesses in, Mainland China and Taiwan. In 2020, Suzy became Market Manager for the East Asia region based in New Zealand.

    During the COVID-19 pandemic, Suzy returned to New Zealand as a Customer Manager, where she was instrumental in implementing initiatives and programmes to support New Zealand businesses in adapting to the challenging environment.

    In addition to her professional experience, Suzy studied at Massey University, has owned a café and cake shop, trained guide dogs, refereed at the Touch World Cup in Malaysia, and coached netball. She also holds a helicopter pilot's license.

The extent of coffee supply at present is Indonesia and supply under license to Antipodean in Malaysia, Philippines and Hong Kong. Also export coffee ex Jakarta to Australia and USA. Specialties: Specialty is Indonesian Arabica- sourced from small-hold farmers and growers from around Indonesia. Roasting and green bean sourcing, espresso equipment under the Astoria brand within Indonesia

    Kenneth arrived in New Zealand from Malaysia as an international student in the mid 1990s. Upon graduation, he worked at Deloitte and Macquarie, on mergers and acquisitions, corporate advisory and capital raising projects. With over 20 years’ experience in international business and corporate finance, he is now director-shareholder in a number of private businesses across multiple sectors including education, retail, investments, health technology and transportation. He is co-founder / director of the award-winning face mask business MEO, with offices in Auckland and Xiamen. From 2010-2019, he was director of Edenz, a large private export education provider, until the sale to Australian interests. He works extensively with senior business people and high net worth investors, utilising his multi-lingual and business development skills to facilitate business across cultures. He is particularly adept at working with businesses and clients to overcome difficult situations, navigating chaos and providing clarity. He was inducted by KEA as a World Class New Zealander in 2015. He is a Trustee of the Auckland Foundation (since 2016)
