The New Zealand ASEAN Business Alliance (ABA), in partnership with the Southeast Asia CAPE, is proud to bring you our second annual business conference.


It's a 2 day, Virtual event exploring how New Zealand and ASEAN businesses can come out of the events of 2020 bigger, stronger and more resilient than ever by making the most of the ASEAN region and beyond. This 100% Virtual Conference will be held via the Whova digital platform, integrated with Zoom. We have a raft of fantastic NZ and ASEAN based speakers.

    Country Manager at Jacobs

    Tim is the Indonesian Country Manager/President Director for Jacobs Engineering and Consulting Group – one of the world’s largest technical professional service firms. Tim, a trained lawyer and former New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Indonesia (2012-2017), has both managed business operations in Indonesia and advised companies on market penetration, set-up and growth in their Indonesian operations over the last 28 years. Tim has lived in Indonesia more than 14 years and is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia. During his time as Trade Commissioner Tim helped New Zealand companies secure more than $320m of new business across multiple sectors.

    Director of Southeast Asia CAPE

    Professor Siah Hwee Ang is the Director of the New Zealand’s Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence. He is also Professor of International Business and Strategy and the inaugural Chair in Business in Asia at Victoria University of Wellington. In these roles, Siah works closely with various stakeholders and companies on their strategies in Asia and Asia’s engagement in New Zealand. Beyond publishing in international top journals and an expert in strategy, competition and international business, Siah is Senior Editor of Strategy, Institutions and Research Design of the Journal of World Business, a leading international business journal, and sits on various editorial boards of international top tier journals over the years. In New Zealand, Siah sits on the national assessment panels for New Zealand Prime Minister’s Scholarships for Asia, Prime Minister’s Business Scholarships, and Marsden Fund. Before joining Victoria University of Wellington, Siah was Professor in Strategy and Associate Dean Postgraduate and International (Asia) at the University of Auckland Business School, a research fellow at Cass Business School, City University in London and the National University of Singapore, where he completed his PhD in Management. Siah is Visiting Professor to a few Asian universities. He writes frequently in the media.

    Eva Claravall is the Customer Experience (CX) practice lead in the Philippines with actual practice in sectors of Finance and Telecommunication covering full breadth of the practice – from customer journey mapping, transactional satisfaction, customer and employee relationships. She also provides consultative roles to companies running full Customer Experience Management programmes. On top of this, Eva plays a key role in building and maintaining client partnerships in Kantar Philippines.

    Eva can already look back on a long career as a market research professional with over 20 years of experience in the field working on various industries in both a local and regional capacity. In the last decade, her focus was on content and technology related researches, founded on strong fundamental human understanding, before later narrowing her focus to studies about the connected consumers and how they navigate the digital lifestyle.

    She joined Kantar in 2014 and acted as the local lead for Kantar’s foray into understanding the digital customer through the Connected Life Study. Prior to joining Kantar, Eva spent a number of years with other research agencies on both local and regional (APAC) roles, Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, and ABS-CBN Corporation.

    Pam Dunn

    Ambassador to ASEAN at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

    Pam Dunn became New Zealand’s second dedicated Ambassador to ASEAN, based in Jakarta, in March 2018.
    Pam is a career diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She was posted to Beijing twice as First Secretary and then again as Deputy Head of Mission in the New Zealand Embassy to China, and Shanghai as New Zealand Consul-General. She has also had three short term assignments overseas: Bangkok, Beijing, and Kuala Lumpur.
    In Wellington, Pam has worked in both North Asia Division and South East Asia Division. In 2016 she was in the Office of the Chief Executive working on Asia issues. In 2017 she was seconded as Senior Private Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
    Pam is from Wellington. She studied at Victoria University and Beijing Normal University. She speaks Chinese and is learning Indonesian.

    Originally from Ireland, Kevin moved to Australia in 2011 and led the Financial Services Recruitment Business for Robert Walters in Melbourne. Previously Kevin has worked with KPMG, Royal Bank of Canada and State Street Bank in Audit, Financial Reporting and Hedge Funds. His career in Xero began in 2015 where he led the Australian sales team as Territory Manager, and developed a deep well of experience in working with SMEs, working tirelessly with his team at Xero and Xero Partners to help SMEs grow.

    Based in Singapore, Benny oversees NZTE's activities and business relationships across East Asia. He was formerly NZTE's investment director for Greater China and East Asia, where he led a team of investment specialists assisting investors to identify high performing businesses and investment opportunities in New Zealand. His team contributed to high-quality investment deals with potential Direct Economic Impact (pDEI) in excess of $1.2 billion annually accruing to New Zealand.

    Benny's career in investment banking spans almost three decades. He has worked in Australia, the United Kingdom and Singapore for several large global European and United States banking institutions including as a director at Deutsche Bank Singapore, with responsibility for the sale of structured equity products and solutions to a South East Asian institutional client base. He was also previously with BNP and JP Morgan.

    Dr. Yuanindita Ingardya (Ardya) is a Teaching Fellow at the School of Marketing and International Business, Victoria University of Wellington (VUW). She holds a PhD in Marketing for VUW and a Masters in Finance and Accounting from Macquarie University, Australia. She shows a strong passion in branding across all her teaching areas at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels; including Marketing Management, Contemporary Marketing, Consumer Behaviour and Pricing Management.
    Before joining VUW, she worked with Kantar Millward Brown as a Senior Research Executive in Jakarta, Indonesia. During her time with the agency she worked with clients across the telecommunication, personal care, beverages, and household/homecare industries – providing consultations in brand strategy, advertising development and optimisation and media effectiveness.
    On the side, she is also an avid yoga instructor. Currently, she is the Marketing Manager of a local Hot Yoga brand in Wellington, guiding it to flourish in the ever-popular health and wellness industry.

    Rob is passionate about strategic planning and execution and the relationship between organisation leadership and successful embedded change projects. He has substantial experience in operational change management.
    He has two adult sons studying at University in New Zealand and is keen cook. Rob enjoys following Rugby, skiing and sailing in his hometown Bay of Islands.

    Lance Little became the Managing Director, Region Asia Pacific for Roche Diagnostics in 2012. Prior to that, he was the Managing Director of Roche Diagnostics India (including the Indian sub-region). His experience as Managing Director extends to both Roche Diagnostics Thailand and Roche Diagnostics New Zealand.
    Lance joined Roche in New Zealand in 1995 in the technical support and management division of Boehringer Mannheim’s Clinical Chemistry portfolio, before moving on to sales and marketing roles. He was appointed Managing Director of Roche Diagnostics Thailand in 2008 before returning to New Zealand to take up the role of Managing Director in 2009.
    Lance started his career as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, specializing in Biochemistry at Auckland Hospital Laboratory in New Zealand. Following that, he spent some time managing the Automation Laboratory at Diagnostic Laboratories in Auckland.

    James has extensive leadership experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors. As a CEO, he has led organisations in the UK and New Zealand, and was formerly the Community Director at the City of London, where he led several city-wide restructure and transformation programmes.

    He has also chaired global federations, is a regular international keynote presenter and panellist on people, culture and learning, and has a passion for the non-profit sector, which he maintains through his current trustee and Chair roles at Skylight NZ.

Andrew specializes in complex and highly integrated buildings as well as fast-track projects. His passion for adventure led Andrew and family to a voluntary sabbatical on the Thai-Myanmar border for two years – beginning his long interest in Myanmar.     Carolyn is Director, Global Sustainability for Fonterra. Leading a business unit of over 110 passionate people, the Global sustainability function drives Fonterra’s strategic social and environmental sustainability priorities globally, manages our environmental management system and provides expert support to the business operations to reduce Fonterra’s environmental footprint across emissions, water use, packaging, waste and biodiversity.

    Carolyn also leads Fonterra’s sustainable land management operations in New Zealand, comprising the Fonterra-owned farms which support each processing site, Dairy Fert, a nutrient spreading operation and Proliq, a liquid stock food business produced from lactose manufacture. These businesses turn waste into profit and circulate valuable nutrients (through crops and feed) back to our shareholder farmers.

    Carolyn sits on the Steering Committee of Living Water, a partnership between Fonterra and the Department of Conservation seeking to demonstrate and scale sustainable farming among healthy ecosystem. She is the co-Chair of the Aotearoa Circle’s land & water management group and a member of the Ministry for Environment’s Chief Executive’s Advisory group.

    Carolyn has an LLB and BA (Politics) from Victoria University and spent the first part of her career as a corporate lawyer, before moving into policy, stakeholder and sustainability roles in Auckland and Washington, DC. Carolyn and her husband Blair have three children bustling through school, sports and social life at their home in Auckland.

    Janette joined QBE in late 2017 to establish and lead their global Sustainability function. She is also a director of the PwC Foundation, a member of the Prince of Wales Accounting for Sustainability expert panel and leads QBE’s involvement in the Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative.

    Jenny leads a competent team of counsellors responsible for enhancing market access opportunities within the South & South East Asian regions. Within Market Access she has responsibility for oversight of the horticulture sector, dietary supplements and support for the dairy sector. Her previous roles in MPI include leading the Food Science and Risk Assessment teams responsible in providing technical advice for the Minister and to underpin NZ and international food regulations. She has a technical background in human nutrition and public health and has over 20 years experience in working for the New Zealand government in nutrition policy, risk assessment and food regulations.
    She leads the NZ delegation to the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses and is chairing the global work on the review on Codex standard for Follow up Formula. She also leads the NZ delegation to the Codex Committee on Food Labelling and is currently co-chairing the global review of front of pack nutrition labelling.

    Dr Aladdin Rillo

    ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General at ASEAN Secretariat

    Dr. Aladdin D. Rillo is appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN Economic Community for 2018-2021. He will support the Secretary-General of ASEAN by providing leadership in the implementation of the AEC Blueprint 2025 and will lead the AEC Department of the ASEAN Secretariat. He will also provide strategic advice to support ASEAN’s economic integration agenda

    Before assuming this role, Dr.. Rillo was a Senior Economist with the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo where he designed and administered capacity building training and policy dialogue on development issues.

    Prior to that Dr. Rillo worked at the ASEAN Secretariat for more than ten years where he served in various positions; the latest as Director and Chief Economist of the ASEAN Integration Monitoring Office (2010-2013), during which he spearheaded the implementation of regional economic surveillance and integration monitoring in ASEAN as well as provided high level policy and recommendation to support ASEAN economic integration initiatives.

    Dr. Rillo holds PhD and MA degrees in economics from the University of Hawaii, and an AB in economics from the Ateneo de Manila University. He has also held various lecturing and senior economist positions in the region and beyond.

    Dr. Rillo has written and published extensively on the ASEAN economy and on the broader economic and finance issues.

In 2018, he was appointed CEO Beer Business Thailand.
    Prior to joining ThaiBev, he spent 14 years in the TCC group co-founding advanced technology business (www.tcc-technology.com) starting from Tier-3 data center facilities to metro area/IP transit network, and enterprise cloud computing platform. His last position was Senior Vice President, Technical Supply Chain, at Berli Jucker Public Company Limited (www.bjc.co.th).
    Mr. Suksingha also serves as Vice Chairman, The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Chairman of Information Technology Management Group at Thailand Management Association (TMA).

Her extensive experiences in dairy innovation and product development of specialised nutrition, food and beverages products, provides her good insight into the Malaysia halal landscape and regulatory requirements. She has strong technical capability in different processing technologies, stakeholder strategy management and incidence response communication.

    Jane is NZTE’s Head of Business Development for food and beverage in Thailand, and is based in Bangkok.

    Her whole career is dedicated to the food industry. She started working with United States Potato Board, Thailand representative office, working to educate and increase consumption of US potatoes in different channels. Later she joined Unilever South East Asia regional office, based in Singapore, as a Regional Assistant Brand Manager for Knorr brand. There she worked for instant meal platform, covering different markets, including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar.

    As part of her study and work, she has been working and living in different countries in Europe, Asia and the USA. It’s part of her passion to learn and gain insight of different cultures – especially their food culture.

    Jane graduated with a first class honour in Liberal Arts (British and American studies) at Thammasat University. She went on to earn a Master Degree in European Business from École supérieure de commerce de Paris (ESCP Europe), where she studied in London and Paris. She has just earned an Executive MBA at SASIN School of Management in Bangkok.

    Deputy Secretary Trade and Economic at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

    Vangelis Vitalis is Deputy Secretary, Trade and Economic, at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He is also the APEC2021 Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) Chair for New Zealand’s host year and the Chief Negotiator for the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union.

    Previously, Vangelis was the Chief Negotiator who concluded the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and before that in 2007-2009 led the conclusion of the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) and the Malaysia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (MNZFTA).

    Prior to taking up his role in Wellington in 2017, Vangelis was New Zealand’s Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva where he chaired the agriculture negotiations in a personal capacity. In this role he helped draft the text of the historic 2015 Nairobi WTO Ministerial Conference to eliminate agricultural export subsidies. Vangelis has also been the Ambassador to the European Union and NATO in Brussels and has had postings to Canberra and Moscow.

    Vangelis has worked outside the Ministry including as an economist in the Secretariat of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He is a past member of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Future Council on Trade and a member of the WEF Trade and Investment Expert network. He has chaired in a personal capacity the OECD Committee on Trade and the Environment (2008-2017), the OECD Global Forum on Trade and Climate Change and is currently the New Zealand Envoy for the Small Advanced Economies’ Initiative.

    A keen saltwater land-based fisherman, Vangelis is married with three children and speaks Greek, German and Russian. He is a longstanding (and suffering) supporter of the Wellington Phoenix Football Club.

    Mr Campbell Wilson is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Scoot, the wholly owned low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA). Mr Wilson joined SIA in April 1996 and was previously the founding CEO of Scoot between 2011 to 2016, before the airline merged with Tigerair.
    Prior to his current role, Mr Wilson was the Senior Vice-President Sales & Marketing of SIA, where he oversaw Pricing, Distribution, eCommerce, Merchandising, Brand & Marketing, Global Sales and the airline’s overseas offices. During his career with SIA, Mr Wilson has held positions overseas and in the head office. He started off as a Management Trainee in New Zealand in 1996, was posted to Australia in 1999 as Regional Marketing Manager South West Pacific, then to the Singapore head office in 2003, where he held Revenue Management and Network Planning roles. Following that, Mr Wilson was appointed Vice-President Canada in 2006, General Manager Hong Kong in 2008
    and General Manager Japan in 2010, before returning to Singapore in 2011 to set up Scoot.
    Born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand, Mr Wilson holds a Master of Commerce (1st Class Honours) in Business Administration from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
