    Tod Masters

    Head of Technology Delivery and Process Improvement at Ascend Corporation

    Tod Masters is a software industry professional with over 30 years’ experience in the development and marketing of financial industry applications and services across both investment banking and consumer finance. His key strength and principal interest has been in the analysis and application of human factor management techniques to the optimisation of the software development process.

    Tod is currently Head of Technology Delivery and Process Improvement at Ascend Corporation, the technology subsidiary of Thailand’s CP Group best known for its TrueMoney branded digital wallet and financial services platform, where he guides development and operations teams in five diverse cultures across Southeast Asia in the adoption of common engineering processes and technology platforms.

    His work at Ascend followed a 25-year career in business development and software engineering of market data platforms and APIs at Thomson Reuters, with assignments in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland and Thailand. At various times he served as Regional Head of Business Development in Asia for the Elektron Datafeed and Enterprise Platform business as well as Global Head of Software Development for market data systems, a $120 million business with over 340 technology staff across locations in the US, Thailand and China.

    In 2001, Tod established Reuters Software (Thailand) Limited as Thomson Reuters principal software development location in Asia. RSTL expanded rapidly over the next seven years to employ 1,600 development, quality assurance, project management and product management staff and became the largest employer of information technology professionals in Thailand, working on product lines ranging from market data distribution to desktop information display terminals and collaboration tools. RSTL was the first organisation in Southeast Asia to be certified by the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University at the highest level of their Capability Maturity Model of software process improvement, demonstrating their commitment to high quality software development based on process management and control.

    Earlier in his Thomson Reuters career, Tod held positions in software product management, development management and software engineering in Australia, the United Kingdom and Japan. Prior to Thomson Reuters, he worked as a Software Engineer in Toronto, Canada primarily in the area of data communications and financial transactions processing.

    Tod graduated with honours from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. He is a long-standing professional member of both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM).

    Dr Khor Swee Kheng is the Chair of ASEAN-BAC Healthcare Working Group. He is a Malaysian physician specializing in health systems & policies and global health, holding fellowships at Chatham House, the United Nations University (UNU-IIGH) and ISIS Malaysia. Previously, he held progressively senior practitioner roles in clinical medicine, refugee & disaster relief, clinical research and pharma anti-corruption. In these roles, he was based in Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Shanghai and Paris, covering >90 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. He holds postgraduate degrees in internal medicine (Royal College of Physicians), public health (UC Berkeley) and public policy (Oxford), and has published >160 articles in international media, think-tanks and academic journals

    Managing Director of PT. Elang Mahkota Teknologi (Emtek), Tbk

    Sutanto Hartono currently serves as the Managing Director of PT. Elang Mahkota Teknologi (Emtek), Tbk., the CEO of Surya Citra Media (SCM), Tbk., the CEO of Surya Citra Televisi (SCTV), and the CEO of Vidio.com. He is leading the effort to establish SCM leadership in the broadcast industry and aligning strategy to transform the Emtek group to be the dominant player in the content production and digital platform.

    He joined Microsoft from another Indonesia’s television broadcasting network - Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia (RCTI) - where he served as the CEO.

    Prior to RCTI, Sutanto established Sony Music Entertainment in Indonesia, then becoming the Senior Vice President for South East Asia. He was also a Senior Associate at Booz Allen & Hamilton, South East Asia. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Indiana with a Bachelor of Science, Chemical Engineering, and from the University of California, Berkeley, with an MBA in Marketing and Finance.

    Chairman and Co-Founder of Zeald

    David Kelly is a co-founder and the chairman of Zeald, New Zealand’s most experienced website design and digital transformation agency for SME businesses. For 20 years Zeald has specialised in ecommerce and digital development, helping more than 15,000 Kiwi small to medium-sized businesses transform digitally.

    In March 2020, Zeald launched its social-impact initiative GEM (the Get Ecommerce Movement) to support greater digital enablement in Aotearoa, and to help New Zealanders cross the digital divide. To date, Zeald has given away more than 1000 free ecommerce solutions through GEM to help get small businesses trading online and to start their digital transformation journey. Zeald is also digitally upskilling Kiwis through its GEM Academy - a free, online-based, digital skills training and internship programme.

    Through the GEM initiative, Zeald has also established partnerships to grow and support digital capability in the Philippines and Fiji.

    Zeald also operates a commercial side of its business. Pioneers of early ecommerce in New Zealand, Zeald developed its own enterprise-level, full-featured ecommerce platform Zest, which has processed more than NZ$2 billion in revenue locally. As well as ecommerce, web design and digital marketing, the tech company continues to blaze trails in digital integration, automation and chatbot infrastructure for MSME businesses.

    A digital visionary and technically astute entrepreneur, David Kelly is an active member of New Zealand’s SME business community and, outside of Zeald, is an investor, director and adviser to a range of companies from well-established businesses to start-ups.

    Director of Southeast Asia CAPE

    Professor Siah Hwee Ang is the Director of New Zealand’s Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence. He is also Professor of International Business and Strategy and the inaugural Chair in Business in Asia at Victoria University of Wellington. In these roles, Siah works closely with various stakeholders and companies on their strategies in Asia and Asia’s engagement in New Zealand.

    Beyond publishing in international top journals and an expert in strategy, competition and international business, Siah is Senior Editor of Strategy, Institutions and Research Design of the Journal of World Business, a leading international business journal, and sits on various editorial boards of international top tier journals over the years. In New Zealand, Siah sits on the national assessment panels for New Zealand Prime Minister’s Scholarships for Asia, Prime Minister’s Business Scholarships, and Marsden Fund.

    Before joining Victoria University of Wellington, Siah was Professor in Strategy and Associate Dean Postgraduate and International (Asia) at the University of Auckland Business School, a research fellow at Cass Business School, City University in London and the National University of Singapore, where he completed his PhD in Management. Siah is Visiting Professor to a few Asian universities. He writes frequently in the media.

    Andrew is also currently chair of the Malaysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the New Zealand ASEAN Business Alliance, an organisation representing the New Zealand business chambers and councils in ASEAN.

Internationally, he is recognised in leadership as a World Class New Zealander by KEA, an Asia 21 Fellow and Global Council Member by the Asia Society, and a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

    In public, Mitchell serves as chair of the Digital Council of Aotearoa NZ (DCANZ), NZ Technology Industry Association (NZTech) and the NZ Financial Innovation & Technology Association (FinTechNZ), co-founder of the NZ Health IT Cluster (NZHIT) and the Global InsurTech Alliance (GITA), honorary advisor at the Asia New Zealand Foundation, trustee of the Auckland Refugee Family Trust (ARFT) and the Foundation for Social Responsibility NZ (FOStR-NZ). Formerly, he was an advisor at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), trustee of Refugee Services Aotearoa (now part of NZ Red Cross) and of the Asia New Zealand Foundation, and board member of Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ).

    In business, Mitchell is a New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) Beachheads Advisor in technology business for South East Asia. He is also a member of the Ethnic People in Commerce (EPICNZ) network, the NZ Asian Leaders (NZAL) forum, and the NZ Superdiversity Council. Internationally, he is a member of the Strategic Alliance Vietnamese Ventures International (SAVVi) network and an executive of the global Vietnamese diaspora business network (BAOOV).
