ANZ have provided us with expert speakers for this event, providing both:

Hon. Nathan Guy, Current Chair of Meat Industry Association, and Chair of Apiary NZ.

  • The Hon. Nathan Guy is a dairy farmer from Levin, and was appointed as Chairman of the Meat Industry Association in November 2022. The Meat Industry Association is a trade association representing the country's red meat processors, marketers, and exporters. Its role is to provide leadership, tools, and a strong, credible voice to help ensure a vibrant and profitable red meat sector. He has also served as Independent Chair of Apiculture New Zealand since July 2022.
  • The Hon. Mr Guy was a sitting member of the New Zealand parliament from 2005-2020, also serving as the Minister of Immigration under Sir John Key and Minister of Primary Industries in both the Key and English Governments.

    Justine Arroll

    Trade Strategy Manager at Fonterra

    Justine is currently the Trade Strategy Manager at Fonterra Co-Operative Group where she has responsibility for driving Fonterra’s engagement and advocacy on strategic global trade issues.
    A former New Zealand diplomat, Justine held a range of trade policy roles in the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade prior to joining Fonterra. She was most recently posted to Washington DC where she was responsible for advocacy in relation to a range of bilateral and multilateral trade issues. Justine has also previously served in the New Zealand High Commission in London and as an advisor to the Minister of Trade.
    A graduate of the University of Auckland in Arts and Law, Justine has been admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor to the High Court of New Zealand, and has completed studies in international law at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and Georgetown University in Washington DC.

    The diverse markets I have operated in, along with a deep exposure to a variety of cultures, countries, industries and businesses, have helped develop me as a leader who is agile, curious and with demonstrated capability in developing high performing teams and leading through change. I have also extensive experience in engaging and building stronger relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including customers, regulators and Government.

    A key focus has been around identifying and executing on productivity initiatives while building a growth based strategic vision. I enjoy being part of a team and have a style of leadership that is open, inclusive and collaborative.

    Furthermore, I am passionate about helping to build economies and deepening international engagement and have participated in a variety of industry and external bodies to support this - such as Fulbright New Zealand, the NZUS Council, the American Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand and Otago University.

    Khoon is the Head of Asia Research at ANZ, based in Singapore. He oversees and co-ordinates the Asia economics and strategy research functions.

    Previously, he was ANZ's senior FX strategist for Asia (excluding Japan) and was responsible for managing the FX Strategy team in Singapore, producing research on Asian currencies and formulating FX strategies for corporate and investor clients. The Asia FX Strategy team has established themselves as a quality research house with ANZ ranked in the top two for FX Research and Market Coverage as voted by financial institutions in the AsiaMoney FX Poll in the last three years (2013 to 2015). ANZ was also the top EM Asia FX forecaster in 2015 as ranked by Bloomberg and Reuters.

    Prior to his current Singapore based role, Khoon was a key member of the New Zealand research team at ANZ covering financial markets.

    Khoon has over 15 years of experience working in various economic and strategy roles across both the public and private sectors. He was the Manager in charge of the New Zealand Treasury's Macroeconomic Forecasting Team, and was responsible for producing the official government forecasts that underpin the Budget and key policy decisions. He also served as an Economic Adviser at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

    Khoon holds a Master of Commerce (First Class Honours) degree majoring in International Economics from the University of Auckland.

    Stephen is the Managing Director of Jacobi Consulting Ltd. Jacobi Consulting offers advice to business and government clients in the fields of international trade, government relations and economic development. Stephen Jacobi is also the Executive Director of the New Zealand International Business Forum and serves as Alternate New Zealand Member for the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).


    Stephen has extensive diplomatic, trade and government experience including posts as Deputy High Commissioner in Ottawa, Assistant Trade Commissioner in Paris and adviser on trade and diplomatic issues with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He was formerly Private Secretary to the Minister for Trade Negotiations, advising on trade policy, international affairs and government-to-government negotiations.

    Stephen has served as Executive Director of both the NZ US Council (2005-2013) and the NZ China Council (2016-2019). Both organisations comprise government, business and community leaders focused on promoting strong and resilient relationships with the US and China respectively.

    Stephen is a frequent media and public commentator on trade and industry issues.
