Doing Business with ASEAN - Practical Insights for Viet Nam - Zoom.


In collaboration with BNZ/Meredith Connell/Grant Thornton/ANZBC, we are delighted to bring you the second event in this series, focussing on doing business with ASEAN. Please join us on Wednesday 15 June at 5:30PM NZT, for a special event - Doing Business with ASEAN, Practical Insights for Viet Nam, hosted at Grant Thornton House, in Auckland + Zoom link.


This event is the second of three hybrid events throughout the year offering attendees practical advice on 'how to' in three major ASEAN markets on three areas of operation – Banking, Legal, and Accounting, as well as a business perspective. This second event in the series will focus on Viet Nam.

Giles has a particular focus on energy and infrastructure having acted on many nationally significant projects and been at the forefront of Vietnam's renewable energy boom, advising developers, lenders and both buy and sell side on numerous M&A transactions. Giles also serves as a Beachhead advisor for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and, in that capacity, regularly guides New Zealand companies on Vietnam market entry matters. Giles qualified to practice law in New Zealand and is registered as a foreign lawyer with the Ministry of Justice in Vietnam. He is recognised as a Leading Individual in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2021 for Corporate and M&A in Vietnam and also as a Recommended Lawyer for Projects & Energy, Vietnam.

    Jennifer is an experienced International Sales and Marketing expert with a demonstrated history of working in the luxury goods and health industry.

    Early in her career, she acquired the portfolio of China market manager - Luxury Goods at JR Watch Co, New Zealand's premium retailer of fine Swiss timepieces.

Today Jennifer serves as Deputy General Manager for MEO, proudly leading a team of experts passionate about taking NZ innovation to the world.

    Jason heads up the Bank of New Zealand’s (BNZ) engagement with the export community a key growth focus for the organization. Prior to this Jason was employed by New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) and held the positions of New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Japan based in Tokyo leading a business development team and more recently, International Coalitions Manager and Industry Sector Lead based in Auckland. Before joining NZTE Jason spent eight years at Fonterra in the Supply Chain and Global Sales Division with a focus on the Asia Pacific region. Jason holds a BA (Japanese) from AUT and an MBA from Massey University and is highly excited about New Zealand’s trade prospects with ASEAN members.

    Mahi Tangaere has worked in diverse roles including Foreshore and Seabed negotiations, and in the education and immigration sectors for over 15 years.

    Mahi currently operates her own law firm, West Dome Legal and an education business NZeducateme.

    Mahi’s variety of administrative roles in her early career has provided her with a unique insight into New Zealand’s regulatory frameworks and educational landscape. This provided her with the insight to establish NZeducateme.

    NZeducateme traditionally operated in the student placement space. It is currently also working with overseas assessors to have the qualifications of New Zealand based hospitality workers assessed and awarded internationally recognized qualifications.

    Mahi’s law firm works, West Dome Legal, offers services exclusively in the area of immigration. Mahi works with a breadth of clients from Immigration Protection Tribunal Appeals to accredited employers and their staff. This has enabled Mahi to gain considerable insight into the communities and employers that she has works with.

    Mahi’s focus emphasizes that the core value systems of Maori and most Asian countries are similar or complimentary. This enables the development of business relationships for long term mutual benefit.

    Mahi has been on the Executive Committee of the ASEAN New Zealand Business Council previously and is the current Vietnam Chapter Chair. Mahi is currently on the Board of the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce and Taiwan New Zealand Trade Development. She is a member of the New Zealand Association of Immigration Professionals and also a member of the Wellington Immigration and Refugee Law Committee.

    Mahi is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington and enjoys a game of hockey.
