Auckland-based ANZBC members, stakeholders and friends, please join us for a networking event to welcome the new year and get 2022 off to a great start. Our Kickstarter 2022 Auckland event, hosted at Meredith Connell offices, on Wednesday 16 February at 5:30PM.


The theme for this special networking event will be Cambodia as the Chair of ASEAN and how those priorities might affect business in Cambodia and the wider ASEAN region. We welcome two guest speakers to our event :


  • Jamie Gillen, Director and Senior Lecturer in Global Studies at the University of Auckland whose presentation will be titled : Cambodia's chairing of ASEAN 2022: New Divisions or Novel Opportunities?
  • Sopheakmonkol Sok (Monkol), a Tech Entrepreneur from Cambodia and Asia NZ Foundation YBLI, who will provide us with an overview of the current business situation in Cambodia.

    Director and Senior Lecturer of The University of Auckland

    Jamie Gillen is director and senior lecturer in Global Studies at the University of Auckland. He is trained as a human geographer with interests in tourism, cultural geography, rural-urban relations, and agrarian change in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Gillen’s early career was marked by projects that reflected his interests in urban entrepreneurialism and tourism in Asia. Moving in to the second phase of his career, Gillen now works with collaborative, cross-disciplinary teams across the world on big picture conversations including aspirations in Asia, rural-urban relations, and environmental hazards.

    Sopheakmonkol is the co-founder and CEO of Codingate Technology and the Cambodian Young Entrepreneur Smart Technology Award 2016 and Forbes 30 under 30 Asia 2017, ASEAN Best Founder of the Year 2017, ASEAN-India Young Leader of the Year 2018, and recently Global Startup Founder Award 2019.

    The youngest child in a small family was born in Angkor City, Siem Reap, Cambodia, carries out his personal Mission: Being rooted in truth and knowledge, happiness sets the foundation as the key element of his philosophy. His personal mission is to put good educational principles into practice so that Cambodian youth will find greater levels of happiness and a higher quality of life. His dream is to initiate change toward modernizing the educational system of Cambodia, developing new methods of learning through hands-on experience where youth develops the passion and finds inspiration in becoming tech leaders.

    This mission has guided him to be an inspirational leader in the Cambodia tech community who has the vision to innovate digital technology for the growth and prosperity of business and society. In 2013, his company started with the initial social project "Skills exchange laptop" with the goal to raise laptops for 15 marginal students who studied IT without having computers. That campaign was to get students (engineers) got together to develop technical solutions, not for money but in exchange for laptops. With the success of the initial project, Codingate was established with the mission to continue helping more young students gain employment through his web and mobile development company. He has empowered young talented Cambodians by providing guidance and direction for work teams and is the key business and technical liaison for clients and investors. He possesses a strong foundation in International relations, interpersonal communication, public presentation, and speaking skills, team leadership, management, and motivation, as well as providing the technical skills required to effectively manage and grow the Codingate tech ventures.

    For his 10 years in Technology industry and 6 years of his tech entrepreneurship, together with his team, he has provided services for 100 clients across sectors including education, hospitality, healthcare, manufacture, NGOs and F&B. He has established 4 tech ventures Codignate, Sokhakrom, Weddingate and Mediagate with the vision "To innovate digital technology for the growth and prosperity of business and society".
