This year's Forum highlights the theme of: Driving Sustainable Recovery in a post-Covid Era.


The recovery of New Zealand businesses, through trade with some of our closest allies, provides a timely opportunity for New Zealand businesses to hear from keynote speakers on future directions and issues, while also learning about and discussing opportunities in this dynamic region during a half day Forum. As always we're looking to bring you business-focused speakers from both NZ and ASEAN.

    Serey Chea

    Assistant Governor at National Bank of Cambodia

    Serey Chea is an Assistant Governor at National Bank of Cambodia. Since Cambodia is a highly dollarized economy, she as a central banker is a vocal proponent for greater use of the local
    currency to promote the country's greater independence on economic and monetary policy.
    Under her guidance, innovative policy instruments were introduced to develop the interbank markets and promote the use of local currency. Serey is also a member of different policy-
    driven committees within the bank and nationally. She is chairwoman of the Credit Bureau Cambodia Ltd., the first and only privately-run credit sharing system in Cambodia. As a
    chairwoman of Clearing House Operation Committee, she has been leading the Bakong Project, an acclaimed initiative of the National Bank of Cambodia in exploring and introducing a new generation of payment system using Blockchain technology.
    Currently, she serves as an International Council Member of the Global FinTech Institute. She is a member of the Southeast Asia Advisory Council of Women World Banking, and is a member of Young Global Leaders, Class of 2019, a forum of Young Global Leaders created by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
    Also, she is a member of the WEF’s Digital Currency Governance Consortium and the Advisory Committee of the Digital Payments for Trade and Commerce project. She is a strong advocate for women economic empowerment and financial inclusion and served as Alliance for Financial Inclusion’s (AFI’s) high level Gender and Women’s Financial Inclusion Committee (GWFIC).
    Serey was a senior fellow of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and is currently pursuing her PhD degree with the University of Adelaide (Australia).

    Peter Landon-Lane is Director – Innovation & Technical at T&G Global Limited. T&G is a fresh produce company founded in New Zealand over 120 years ago. T&G sells fresh produce to over 60 countries from its network of sales, marketing, and supply companies around the world. It has licensed the growing and sale of its flagship apple varieties Jazz™/Scifresh and Envy™/Scilate in 14 countries.
    Peter joined T&G in 2018 as Chief Operating Officer, moving into his current role in 2019 focussing on new international business. From 2008 to 2018 he was Chief Executive Officer of the New Zealand Institute for Plant & Food Research, a Crown Research Institute.
    Before joining Plant & Food Research Peter spent 17 years in the New Zealand dairy industry, heading in-market businesses for Fonterra and the New Zealand Dairy Board in Taiwan, Japan and Europe, as well as corporate roles in New Zealand.
    Peter’s earlier career included assignments as New Zealand Trade Commissioner in China and in the Philippines.
    Peter has degrees in science and in economics and he is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors. He is a board member of New Zealand Apples and Pears Incorporated and several T&G subsidiary and associate companies.

    Chief Sustainability Officer at City Developments Ltd

    An active advocate for green building and sustainability for over two decades, Esther has been instrumental in establishing CDL’s leadership in sustainability. It is ranked top real estate company on the 2021 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World and is the first CDP A-List company for both climate strategy and water security in SE Asia and Hong Kong. Key ESG initiatives she has spearheaded include publishing the first sustainability report in Singapore in 2008; issuing the first green bond by a Singaporean company in 2017 and building an integrated reporting framework since 2015. A forerunner in embracing the UN SDGs, Esther was conferred 2018 SDG Pioneer for Green Infrastructure and A Low Carbon Economy by the UN Global Compact. She is also a signatory for the UNGC Caring for Climate network and a UN ESCAP Sustainable Business Network Executive Council member. She sits on the boards or advisory platforms of several organisations, including World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), Global Reporting Initiative, GRESB Asian Real Estate Benchmark Committee and UNEP FI Real Estate Work Group. She chairs the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association’s Sustainability and ESG Committee; Co-Chairs the Urban Land Institute Singapore’s Sustainability Product Council and is the Vice-Chairperson of the Singapore Institute of Directors’ ESG Committee, as well as the WorldGBC’s Corporate Advisory Board.

    Minister of State at for Trade and Export Growth

    Hon Phil Twyford was born and raised in Auckland. He is the Labour Member of Parliament for Te Atatū, where he lives. Phil’s vision is for New Zealand to deliver hope and opportunity to all people.

    After studying politics at Auckland University, Phil worked as a journalist and union organiser before becoming the founding Executive Director of Oxfam New Zealand. Phil’s strong belief in justice led to him becoming Oxfam’s Global Advocacy Director, based in Washington DC.

    Upon returning to New Zealand, Phil was elected to Parliament for the Labour Party in 2008. In Opposition, he held the portfolios of Housing, Transport, Auckland Issues, and Disarmament and Arms Control.

    Phil is currently the Minister for Disarmament and Arms Control, Minister of State for Trade and Export Growth, Associate Minister for the Environment and Associate Minister of Immigration.

    With a career ranging from diplomat to business leader to entrepreneur across New Zealand and Asia, Ziena has helped some of New Zealand’s largest businesses build their reputation and revenue, advised Ministers, and supported the growth of Māori and Pacific young people in professional careers.
    She consults on strategy and stakeholder engagement, and is a board member of Manukau Institute of Technology, Unitec, DNA Design, and the Cancer Society Auckland Northland. She is also a keynote speaker and commentator on diversity and inclusion, Asia business, nation branding, and leadership.
    A New Zealand Women of Influence awards finalist, Ziena was recognised by Campaign Asia Pacific as part of its 2020 Women to Watch, a group of 40 outstanding women in the Asia Pacific. Ziena has also received several international awards for her work promoting New Zealand trade and education in Asia, while in the roles of Regional Director (South & South East Asia) for Education New Zealand, New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Singapore, and Head of North Asia Marketing and Communications for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

    Director of Southeast Asia CAPE

    Professor Siah Hwee Ang is the Director of New Zealand’s Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence. He is also Professor of International Business and Strategy and the inaugural Chair in Business in Asia at Victoria University of Wellington. In these roles, Siah works closely with various stakeholders and companies on their strategies in Asia and Asia’s engagement in New Zealand.

    Beyond publishing in international top journals and an expert in strategy, competition and international business, Siah is Senior Editor of Strategy, Institutions and Research Design of the Journal of World Business, a leading international business journal, and sits on various editorial boards of international top tier journals over the years. In New Zealand, Siah sits on the national assessment panels for New Zealand Prime Minister’s Scholarships for Asia, Prime Minister’s Business Scholarships, and Marsden Fund.

    Before joining Victoria University of Wellington, Siah was Professor in Strategy and Associate Dean Postgraduate and International (Asia) at the University of Auckland Business School, a research fellow at Cass Business School, City University in London and the National University of Singapore, where he completed his PhD in Management. Siah is Visiting Professor to a few Asian universities. He writes frequently in the media.

    Suzy Fewtrell is the Market Manager for East Asia including, Japan and Korea at New Zealand Trade & Enterprise. For the past 14 years Suzy has been living in China where she owned and ran a very successful business before working for NZTE in Shanghai. Suzy has now returned to New Zealand where she is focused on her role as the NZ contact point for East Asia. She works closely with NZ Inc partners and helps resolve issues NZ businesses have with the East Asia region, supporting the Regional Director and Trade Commissioners to achieve their goals of growing NZ businesses in their respective markets. Suzy advises on East Asia issues and concerns, develops programmes for visiting government delegations and gives input to the NZTE teams offshore within East Asia.

    GM International at Education New Zealand

    Lisa joined ENZ in 2013 after an 18-year diplomatic career with MFAT which included five years as the Deputy Head of Mission at the New Zealand Embassy in Berlin, and three years as First Secretary and Consul at the New Zealand Embassy in Santiago.
    At ENZ Lisa has spearheaded initiatives such as the Generation Study Abroad and Go Overseas scholarships, Game on English, and she has championed the development of local language and tailored marketing materials. Her 40-strong team leads ENZ’s internationalisation efforts through influence, insights and reciprocal partnerships.
    Lisa has been instrumental in the establishment of a permanent ENZ presence in Tokyo and Washington DC.
    She is a trained television director and a graduate of the University of Otago and the University of Auckland. Lisa and her husband Regan are based in Wellington and have two teenagers, a son and a daughter, studying at high school.

    Lauren Irvine is a Programme Manager for Skills Consulting Group, managing the scholar selection process for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships Programme. In this role, she manages a team that support the end-to-end selection process from application through to the final placement of successful scholars with training providers in New Zealand and the Pacific.
    With almost 20 years’ experience in New Zealand’s public sector, in contract and programme management, Lauren is a critical thinker, with the ability to build strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders. Not satisfied with the status quo, Lauren constantly works to refine processes and enhance solutions, providing her clients with seamless, high quality solutions delivered to time, scale and budget.
    Since 2018, Lauren has specialised in scholarships and is an expert in applying complex methodology to identifying high quality scholars from around the world to study at New Zealand and Pacific Tertiary Institutes.
    In 2020, Lauren worked closely with her newly formed team at Skills Consulting Group to successfully implement new processes through Covid-19 lockdown – a testament to her leadership, adaptability, and resilience.

James is focused on improving exports and relations in Southeast Asia, where onion exports have increased by over 650% since the AANZFTA was signed. James works in an environment sandwiched between commercial growers/exporters and the Government. Being a link between private enterprises, Government and offshore markets has led to James developing an extensive network of contacts. James firmly believes that trade is more than a one-way transaction, but rather a long-term relationship that adds value to all partners.
